when interviewed about his extraordinary talent for painting, an 8-year-old boy in england uttered the above phrase, as a final [master]piece of advice. perhaps this little boy, with no prior influence or lessons in art, has channelled the superability of painters past. perhaps his mind is that of an 8-year-old child, but his heart is that of a Monet, and his eyes are that of a Picasso. perhaps this seemingly simple-minded blurb of admonition holds a genius that some have not yet recognized.
“never give up. try and keep your buildings straight. and don’t do a plain blue sky.”
it warms me to think these words speak to more than just aspiring artists. i will take them to mean this: although we aren’t all born prodigies, advanced in a beautiful skill that brings light to the world, we must find something we’re passionate about and work toward it, without relenting or giving up. all the while, we must keep our foundations strong. as long as we have faith, we cannot fall. lastly, we must reach to new heights with a fervor that surpasses content blue skies, in favor of extraordinary, colorful ones.
