when i got back to ohio from nyc a week ago, i started packing for the big move to st thomas. we meant to make it to the island last saturday, but flights were full. and thennn, the hurricane came. after all the hurricanes i endured in florida, i never thought i'd have to worry about one coming to ohio. it's surreal, to say the least.
and last night, my final night on "the big island" (the us continent), i put on my onesie, ate pumpkin pie for dinner, and watched It's a Wonderful Life with my mom--a sort of farewell to the holiday spirit which is no doubt absent from the caribbean. at about 8pm, a resounding cracking of wood sprung us out of the warmth of our home into mom's windy backyard to find two huge trees that had fallen over. luckily, nothing but the poor trees were damaged... and my holiday spirit. (to de-stress, mom and i started downing beer and wine).
this morning, i ironically fled the storm in ohio to move to an island that is regularly hit by them. it's such an amusing, backwards situation. nonetheless, i'm excited.
and as i wait for my flight to the island, the northeast coast is constantly on my mind. i'm wearing my john lennon nyc shirt and sending all my good vibes to the whole area, in hopes that they recover from this monster soon enough.

Just found your blog! I live in New York and love your recent posts about your visit here :)
Good Luck on your move to St. Thomas!!! I visited St. John this past summer and it was ah-mazing so I'm a little jealous that you will be living just one island away from there. Can't wait to hear more about this new chapter :)
